This Supernatural Story
Steven Soderbergh challenges his film-making abilities with this innovative supernatural story captured wholly through the eyes of a ghost. The Black Phone Horror
The director's claustrophobic thriller holds up well without requiring a continuation. Located in 1978 Denver, multiple disappearances has rendered the local kids on edge. After Finney is kidnapped by the villain and imprisoned in a cellar, he fears a terrible outcome. However, the disconnected phone on the wall continues to ring, with spooky callers offering help, while the prophetic visions of Gwen, his sister could save him. A solid creepfest. Saturday 11 October, nighttime, Film4
The Eyes of Tammy Faye
In the conflict between spirituality and money, the winner is obvious for Mammon in this director's brilliantly over-the-top biopic regarding the shamed religious broadcaster and her criminal husband. Andrew Garfield acts as the greedy Jim, who declares initially, “God does not want us to be poor,”. He and Tammy Faye commence profiting from the nation's spiritual convictions. It's a spectacle of poor styling, bad makeup and hypocrisy, however Chastain manages to show the character as a sympathetic figure. Tuesday 14 October, 1.15am, the Film4 channel
