PSG Defeats Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Claim Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now won the prestigious trophy on fourteen separate times.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a dramatic leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown featuring the Ligue 1 winners and the Coupe de France holders after Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring in the opening stages.

Yet, Marseille struck two times late to take a surprise advantage. First, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable turn of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial leveler in the final seconds to send the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 penalty victory.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this competition for the 12th time in the last thirteen years.
